Roses
« on: February 10, 2011, 19:26 »
Decided to make more of an effort this year in the garden,I have always liked roses so last October ordered some named varieties from rose specialists. They were deliverd two days after the snow and cold weather started so they spent six weeks in the garage not able to plant as the ground was frozen.Planted them in early January and kept my fingers crossed they would be OK, noticed this week they all have new buds showing so looking forward to a show of flowers later in the year.

And of course, we're looking forward to some lovely pictures too. :)

Here's a picture of the beds with the roses planted in the centre of each ,not that they look very much at the moment. The box should start to fill out in the summer so I can trim then straight and hope the roses fill the middle, could be a couple of years before they look there best

They should look lovely.

I love roses - always bring back my childhood - My dad filled a front and back garden with roses except a small patch of grass for me!
He used to show at the local flower shows and at the National Rose Society - once had best in show.  then he used to be a RNRS judge,

He has a piece from a local paper which tells of a 4 year old dragging the journalist around the garden and introducing him to all the roses.... :tongue2:
