Title: Unknown bulb
Post by: Yorkie on December 26, 2018, 13:33
Afternoon all and I hope you had a good day yesterday.

I was weeding Mum's front border of lots of little grass, and amongst it we're a lot of small bulbs with short spiky leaves. I've taken a photo; can anyone hazard a guess what it might be?

The leaves look rather crocus-like but she hasn't planted crocuses there for some years.

Yes I think it might be a crocus, maybe the seeds have blown in

Thank you both. Glad I didn't dig them up all then!  :D

The seeds probably came from the last time crocuses were grown there, they seed close to the ground so can go unnoticed. Since then they've probably been growing quietly each year, past the grass-like stage, until they've made new corms for you  :)   I have them growing in the lawn now, they seeded in from the border.
