I have a recipe for green grape chutney and it calls for white wine vinegar and all I have is distilled vinegar or normal malt vinegar does it matter?

It's a question of flavour. White wine and cider vinegars are far better taste wise for chutneys etc as the malt tends to be too powerful

I'd go out and get some I really would  :)

If i had to buy the grapes than I'd buy the proper vinegar.  If I had loads of grapes growing in the garden I'd try a batch with the distilled ::)

I make a far bit of chutney with distilled vinegar, gives a nice bright colour :)
