Mallow/Lavatera What to do?
« on: May 16, 2019, 19:43 »
Hi All,
Last year at the allotment BBQ my wife went round another plot (invited) and tasted as she said a very sweet fruit. Plot holder gave her a couple of seed pods. These were stored until spring when I sowed the seeds. I now have 12 very health plants. She could not remember the size of the plants or anything! The plot holder thinks they look like Lavatera.

On this site the only references I can find are amongst posts relating to weeds, nettles and thistles!

Okay, it was the BBQ and alcohol had been consumed but if my wife thought they were sweet surely there is something that can be done with them? Especially as they are so easy to germinate.

You can use mallow as a culinary plant, so it could be that.

If you are searching on the internet, it is the common mallow that is the edible one.  It is also known as cheese plant as the seeds are in round seed heads, divided up like wedges of cheese.
