Hi would like to ask, has anyone tried to grow grapes (out door) as far north as lincolnshire ?
I picked up a bargain today (well will be if they survive) 7 grape vines for £11-00 should have been £90
They are Alicante (also known as Black Tokay)
I know nothing about grapes can anyone offer me some advice,
x fingers.

On our plot there is a guy growing a few rows of black grapes. Not sure of the variety but they have been black for a few weeks now. We are in Derby so depending where in Lincolnshire you are we could be at the same lattitude.

I have a grapevine growing from last year. I don't know the variety, but it is a white grape and it is growing beautifully, even had a few bunches of small grapes this year and I am in Manchester.

Yes, as said above, white varieties do well, South facing wall/fence ideal. (sheltered) they do like well drained soil, so mix in some grit when you plant them. Here's mine.....

this one's 3 years old, and I got approx 10-15 bunches off it this year. :)
P.s There's a vineyard not 10 mins from my house, that apparently produces some of the finest sparkling white wines in the country!  :)
