Epicure potatoes - not flowered yet...
« on: June 28, 2010, 11:07 »
I planted out my epicure 1st earlies at the end of march.
I don't know if I am being completely stupid but I am sure they haven't flowered yet.
My 2nd earlies and my main crop which I planted in april are flowering.
The plants look healthy enough and I have had a look underneath and there are some very small potatoes there. To be honest I expected them to be ready by now!
The only thing I can think it that we don't have water on our allotments, so they have not been watered at all, which hasn't been a problem until this last couple of weeks.
Thanks in advance for your help  :)

According to this database, Epicure rarely flower, a lot of spuds don't and folk wait a long time for them!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

How interesting! Thanks for that - I would have been waiting a long time! Although I am that impatient I probably would've dug em up anyway!
I wonder how you are supposed to tell if they are ready? I thought with 1st earlies you were supposed to wait til the flowers fade rather than waiting til the foliage dies back...but if there are no flowers.....?? Hmmmm!  ???

I furtled my Swifts yerday, found a couple of nice tubers near the surface so tried lifting one - to find 2 nice tubers and a dozen pea-sized ones...
