I'm planning a water-pipe and fleece structure over my (rasied) carrot bed, with the ability to lift each side for weeding...

Commercial growers remedy?? I am curious what methods does a proper non chemical using, organic farmer employ in a large field of carrots to keep the fly away? and are any of them transferable for those of us with allotments?

I understand that organic carrots are grown in beds with fleece covers.  However it is possible for commercial growers to buy pheromone traps which warn them when the carrot flies are about, so they do not need to keep the covers on all the time.

In the Netherlands there are organic carrot farms.

I planted my carrots in old buckets filled with new compost last year. Just left them to grow and watered now and then. They grew fine! I'll be washing my buckets for this year soon.

I've tried lots ways to stop the critters over the years, companion growing, bath tubs, wind shields etc. but as in all aspects of my gardening, I have had good, mediocre and bad years. I've now decided to become a Hindu, wait until I am reincarnated as one, then try to disuade them not to be such a nusiance.
