Missed sowing my sprouts!
« on: May 25, 2009, 21:47 »
In all the excitement, i have completely forgotten to sow my sprouts

Is it worth giving it a go, or would I be on a hiding to nothing?

If it's a no go, is it worth buying some 'plug plants' ? (are these available?) and sticking them in (I would come clean  ;))

Your thoughts please ladies & gents.

Thanks

Richard

mine are going in today - got the seeds so will plant them and see what happens - got nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain

last year we didnt plant anything much til june, got some fab parsnips, so alwasy worth a go i reckon

Sowing time is up to end April (for some varieties) so getting plants at Garden Centre (I think you need something larger than plug plants, and mail-order might have a delay before you get them) would save you 2 or 3 weeks compared to growing from seed.

However, I'm always a bit nervous about buying Brassica plants in case I "import" club root ...

B & Q had their veggie plants half price yesterday, quite a good selection too  :)

Thanks for your comments everyone. I think I will probably sow the seeds now and see what happens.

Got plenty of other things on the go, so not a disaster if I don't get many sprouts and I don't really want to be spending more cash on buying in plants.

Good point about club root as well Kristen. I hadn't considered that!

Regards

Richard
