Title: What cleaning products for septic tank help
Post by: grinling on June 03, 2011, 21:12
Finally ready to exchange and complete on the new house in Lincolnshire. Thank you for all advice so far, but what cleaning products can I use for a septic tank. Will convert to normal soap, but what should I use for dishwasher / washing machine / sink washing and cleaning the loo? Very difficult to find info online (could just be me!!) and packaging in supermarket not much help.
So looking forward to sorting out the garden though, hasn't been touched this year!! :D

You can use any normal supermarket products, but you are likely to find that the tank doesn't "work" properly as these harsher products kill the working micro-organisms and your tank will need frequent emptying. I use the "eco"/simple or at least non-bio options where ever possible and our tank works away breaking the contents down as it is designed to do. We also try to minimise hard materials such as cotton buds getting flushed down the loo. That way our tank, installed in 2004, hasn't needed emptying yet. :)
