Title: The hens are here
Post by: Barry J Scott on January 21, 2007, 16:35
The hens are here and in their new house. The run is 98% done, I just need to get some tent pegs to secure the chicken wire at the bottom and then add a bit more chicken wire to stop foxes digging. I am going to take up a few inches of soil round the run, lay flat some chicken wire, pin it down with tent pegs and cover it with the soil. This is because foxes always dig next to the fence, this way they will dig down onto wire. That should FOX them....sorry.

I also need to get some wood chips to lay down in the run.

Here (http://bp1.blogger.com/_g3z7ImoZmOo/RbOVzEUYWWI/AAAAAAAAABM/_Fm7-iFaZqI/s1600-h/21012007122.jpg) is an image of the run as it neared completion.

That is looking really good, I wish I had space for some chickens.

You will have to let us know if your wire under the fence works.

Good luck with the new birds, Barry. I hope to have mine in the next few days. Unfortunately, I too have to admit to feeling like a big kid again at 43!! It just goes to show that the simple pleasures of life are definitely the greatest.

A friend is going to get me 5 reasonably large chippings bags for £1.70 each. I will spread them over the worst areas and then dig over the places that are not holding the water.
