Tarpaulin covered greenhouse - whether to replace
« on: March 13, 2011, 06:50 »
Hi All, I got an allotment yesterday  :) and there is an old greenhouse, brick with a wooden frame. It looks very old but strong and is covered with a big blue tarpaulin. This seems to keep the heat in but I was wondering if changing this to a clear material which would allow more light (I think?) would improve it a lot?? I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it but not sure if the clear cover would be better....

I would think the blue is restricting light to the greenhouse. i would change it for a clear cover and make the most of the extra greenhouse growing space.
Thanks
Kris

yes, I'd also change it for clear UV stabilised polysheeting  ;)

Hi, thanks for the advice, I have seen some in Wilkos that may do the job. I guess that is next weekend sorted :-) I was glad of the tarp this morning in the rain as I was digging up inside the greenhouse...Will hope for sunny and not windy days next weekend....
