Title: Mucky Bums?
Post by: Nickchick on December 06, 2010, 12:59
I have noticed that my 2 x ex-batts have fairly mucky bottoms at the moment.  I think it is bacause their knickers are just too frilly.  I am reluctant to give them a bath in this very cold weather as I would hate them to get a chill because they were not completely dry before they were returned outside.  Will it cause health problems if they are not clean?  They no longer lay so mucky eggs is not a problem.

Thanks in advance

Nichola

1 of mine is the same and I think for the same reason. I would think that there would be more risk of problems in warmer temperatures when it could attract flies. 1 good thing about this cold weather is that you you don't get pests like that being a problem. :)

Hi,
I had this problem a few weeks ago and was asked if maybe there were too many treats in my hen's diet (I don't think there were).  But it was also suggested that in warmer weather there would be a problem with flies etc, but in cold maybe a warm bath and a dry with a hair dryer would be a good idea if it got very dirty.
