Awww what a shame!  But when you think of the price of feed, the wheat we buy was £4.22 a bag just before Christmas, when we got our delivery 2 weeks ago it had gone up to £6.28 for a 20kg bag!

Plus the cost of everything else going up, he won't be the only one.  The supermarkets won't care, they'll just bring more eggs in from abroad!!!  which aren't as good as ours!

I agree Grannie,I am now buying crushed maize and wheat separately and mixing it myself but only to save £1.50 overall! sounds like a miser but when you think I now spend some £90.00 every 6 weeks-(well I am now with just under 100 girls)-or about that it becomes horrendous-Ghastly even, when people steal a box of eggs from you at only £1.00! :(

I read an article 2 days ago in a farming paper stating that we are currently not importing eggs as we have an over supply!
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Which paper was that Sassy?  We were told by a DEFRA vet that we need MORE people to come into the industry to stop them importing so many foreign eggs!

Do you buy yours trade Missie?  Those prices are trade prices from Bearts, retail is even more!

Just before Christmas our last tonne of feed was £270.  2 weeks ago it was £303

It was in the Country Post a supplement of the Yorkshire Post

Very sad!  Another farmer we've lost!

And many of their children don't want to go into farming because its a LOT of hard work for very little reward unless you are one of the big guys!

And grain will be even more expensive soon as Brian said that in the Farmer's Guardian, they said another 500 farmers have signed up to grow grain for bio fuel as its worth more!  :( :(

Great shame , i think it will get worse before it gets better tho. Our 20kg sacks of layers meal are just over 7.00 whether its Meg moor or the chicken farm itself , i think about a year ago its was just over 6...All animal food with wheat is higher isnt it ?

We don't sell our feed generally, but if anyone who comes here to buy chooks or to ask advice sometimes ask for feed, and I had been charging £6.50 for over a year, but this last delivery, the price of layers went up by 56p, so I've had to put the price up by 50p.

Some people have been charged in excess of £8 for a 20kg bag though!  :( :(

How may sacks of layers do you think my car can hold?

I'm currently paying 16.50 pounds per 25kg of layers!  I think I need to pay a visit to the UK!
