Do either of these need covering with netting ?
-
Nope.
Well mine don't.
-

-
I cover mine with butter.
-
I like to cover mine in cheese source and bake in a moderate oven ::)
(and no never have heh)
Edit:
aww i didn’t read that post seems i was beaten to it! hehe

Later in the season I will be tempted to cover my leeks with a very fine mesh, probably enviromesh, to try to stop the leek moth, which lays eggs that turn into wrigglies that then burrow down into the heart of the leek and can cause bad damage. Not potatoes though.

I'm probably the only person who puts netting over the potato beds -- stops the foxes digging and the cubs making nice nesties in the middle, where they curl up snug and warm

No dont need to cover either of them. My neighbours leeks have had the tops eaten by rabbits tho.
His must have been tastier than mine.

St. Davids Day fast approaching !! - I'd recommend protecting leeks from patriotic Welshmen.
