The blasted mice keep eating my broad beans. It doesn't seem to matter whether I start them off in modules in the greenhouse or plant the seeds direct. As soon as the shoots appear, the mice descend on them, chew off the shoot and nibble the bean underneath. Is there a reliable deterrent, other than a cat that is?
By the way, I'm guessing at mice being the culprits based on the size of the nibble marks on the beans. Can't think what else might bite of the shoots and nibble the seed-bean underneath

I module sow all peas and beans, then remove the spent bean before planting them out. Snappy traps baited with peanut butter deal with invaders.

Liberal sprinkles of chilli powder can put them off, but is not as effective as the above, which works for me

I have a large metal grill, supported in the air upon  4 stainless steel rods onto which i've slid upturned plant pots.  That seems to flummox the little perishers.  I put the sweetcorn and peas upon this assembly.
