potatoes in bags
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:50 »
I'm growing potatoes in bags - Dobies kit, 3 bags with 3 different varieties of potatoes.  Apart from the fact that I no longer know which bag has which variety - so I don't know which bag has the earlies at all - all of them seem to have collapsed.  The leaves look healthy enough but they've fallen on the floor.  They are on a patio and get a good amount of afternoon sun.
Should I be worried?

Sounds as though they may be thirsty. Bags lose moisture quicker than normal soil. wouldnt hurt to give them a good soak and see if that makes a difference. :)

I agree with WG, a good water might make the difference. My spuds in pots decided to flop earlier than the same ones planted on my plot. On the plus side I find there is a lot less damage from slugs and nasties to the spuds in pots compared to those in the ground.

The top growth on my potatos always tend to collapse when it gets  big.
As long as they appear healthy just keep watering as you have been.
The danger in pots and bags is that as they are higher from the ground they do tender to snap off.

Sounds as though they may be thirsty.

Or beaten down by the rain, like mine.
Any day above ground is a good day.
