blooming runner beans
« on: May 18, 2013, 13:35 »
Three batches I have tried, two lots of compost and one lot direct and no a single bean, the beans swell and then start to burst and that is it. Nothing more.

I have never I repeat never struggled with runners. Went to get some new seeds and can't find any ????????

I have two bean frames and no beans. Ggggrrrrrr

Someone throw us a bean or two, will try the other garden centre later, can't even find plants or I would buy those  ::)

Sounds like you brought bad beans! I would try a different packet or buy some seedlings cheap at market

Most of my runners and french beans have germinated in a cold greenhouse, just wish my squashes and cuks would show.

None of beans have come up yet (sown them direct) but my spares are just showing their faces in the greenhouse over a week now
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

I have some seeds - PM me your address and I'll pop them in the post.  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Sounds like you had a bad batch,I always check mine to see if they are viable seeds, get a jug of cold water, throw your beans in,those that sink are ok,those that float are dead beans, chuck em.
I have had 100% germination using this approach.

Mine have been far, far slower to germinate this year, and they are growing very slowly too. Typical, as I hung back this year, as they normally romp  away and I have a struggle to look after them until they go out! :(

Last year I forgot to sow any......... and then found some plants at a local car boot sale at a very good price.

Perhaps there will be one near you BQ  :)
