compost growing mushrooms

Hi all,

I am back with another question..........
I sowed some herb seeds in to some compost bought from a diy store about a month ago now to grow on my kitchen window sil over the winter.
None of them have grown but some strange small mushrooms grew in most of the pots instead :shock:
What do you think I did wrong?

Cantaminated compost I'd say.

The mushrooms are were about 3cm tall, very thin stalks with a Grey head which was small, pointed and had lots of lines running from the top of the point to the base of the head.

I am sorry but I cant take pics as I have done away with them!
