Hi All,
In a dilemma here, I think with the hot weather and humidity levels that blight is due to set in on my spuds?. Last year I sprayed them with it and soon after I got blight, thinking that I made things bad by wetting the leaves. So do I treat incase I get it or wait till I see it then spray?

Where are you Steve, cos the only confirmed blight so far this year is in scotland?

I am in East London near to 'Nosheds' site.

sign up to blightwatch and they will tell you if conditions are right for blight, and then you decide, based on the risk of blight in your area, whether you want to spray or not.

Dithane is a prevention, not a cure.
Spraying after you vget blight is like shutting the stable door after the horse hads bolted.

Dithane is a prevention, not a cure.

So would you spray your tomatoes when the blight watch web site says it is in your county then DD?

Dithane is like nicotine patches....its a big,expensive con! If you get Blight,as already stated,its too late and therefore Dithane is useless. Dithane as a preventative is also useless,mother nature will have her way no matter what....sorry for the doom,but this is my opinion....we all have them :(

I take a much more relaxed attitude to it all. In this game you win some, you lose some and mother nature will always win in the end.
Unless you are feeding your family on what you grow and have no alternative then a few losses can easily be absorbed.

So does your much more relaxed attitude Ice mean you dont spray dithane on your toms?
I didnt spray last yr and lost about 3/4 of my toms was hoping spraying correctly this yr would help.
Only thing is i cant seem to find the correct way/times to spray my toms to help. I wanted to try this yr as after last yr losses think ive got nothing to loose.
Im sure i read and saw pictures on here some place from someone who did spray last yr and got a succesfull crop where as other ppl on his site didnt. Anyone remember that post and where it is?

I'm sorry, I totally disagree, not just an opinion, but by practical results.
As a lot on this forum will know, I used Dithane last year and had a great crop of outside tomatoes. I was the only one to have them on our blight-ridden site. Many fellow plot holders who had to skip their tomatoes last year are going to follow suit this year.
It need not be expensive. A quarter sachet (not packet) will spray a lot of tomatoes.

I would start when it shows up in an adjacent county, or I can see that the Blight Watch map is filling up rapidly with red dots. The current hot weather, (around here anyway), is not conducive to blight as the humidity is low.

Still only two red dots on the map. North Scotland and West Wales.
