Out Of Date Seeds?
« on: April 19, 2012, 11:47 »
Morning All :)

Just been looking through my seed draw and was shocked to see how many packets of unused seeds I have that are out of date! Some back to 2009!

Do I just bin these and move on or can some still be used?

Thanks in advance :)

Worth trying.

I found red cabbage and Kale seeds this year - from 2002 and 2004. Sowed a few of them and they germinated. I have twelve healthy plants of each now.

The kale seeds were actually open too....

If it was me, I'd suck 'em and see.

Well, chit 10 of each and see what sort of rate of germination you get.

Or just plant them all liberally and see what happens?

Yes, do. Refresh your knowledge, especially if it's a wet day and not much happening  :)

I keep my seeds for years and most are fine, except perhaps parsnips.  The fridge, in a Tupperware, is a good place to store them

Definately keep them and give em a try, I made a school boy error sowing some lollo rosso seeds from 2003 in modules earlier in the year left them a few weeks not a sniff, being a bit tight figured I wasn't about to waste the compost and sowed brussels in the same modules right on queue as the brussels germinated so did the lollo rosso  ::)
