Howard 200 C12 Villiers Video
« on: April 05, 2009, 23:41 »
Nothing special but just wanted you all to see my 1971 Howard 200 in action.

Always done the repairs/tuning myself. Been using 95Ron unleaded since 1986

Thanks for that...... the 200 is a lovely little machine.

I have one - runs beautifully despite it's age and an owner who has not a clue about petrol engines  ::)

What oil do you use for the drive-shaft sump? I need to buy some more and cannot remember what it is I used last. Advice would be appreciated.

We ought to set up an owners club as they are becoming increasingly rare  8)

I use SAE30 in the engine and SAE140 in both the gearbox and rotor gearbox.

Got the SAE140 from here http://www.cplubricants.co.uk/classic.htm

'shaun' How on earth did you break the conrod? My engine solid. Gets worked so hard sometimes on full throttle. They are great to work on, so simple.

Many thanks for the advice about oil...... :)

............. having cycled (not driven) since I was 21 (many, many years) engines and I rarely come into contact unless it's the mower or my Howard 200. ::)

it wasnt me who broke the conrod, the chap who owned it was doing some rotavating.and he hit a metal bar in the ground that caused the gears to jam stalling the engine, thinking it was the metal bar that caused the engine to stall he fired it back up in neutral engaged the gear let the clutch off and snapped the conrod.or so he tells me, ::)
anyhow he gave me the howard cus he didnt have the time or money to repair it  ;)

heres a pic of the repaired engine.

And lovely it looks too.... I just wish I could carry out a repair!

I sent my Howard 200 in for a service - the main reason was to have a persistent oil leak sorted out. Explained this to the service chap at the time. £90 later one serviced engine but still an oil leak so no better off.  :(

How do you adjust the valve clearances on these Villiers side valve engines?

I'm hoping someone can help you out with this..... I haven't a clue.

I do know a source for Villiers engine manuals if that's any help.
