Title: Beetroot - how long will it stay in the ground
Post by: rustygman on September 17, 2008, 10:36
I have got a fair few left in the ground but would rather keep eating it fresh than pickling it. I have never been in this situation before so would like to know how long it will stay in the ground for. They are in well drained, good quality soil in kent and are still tasting and feeling fine. thanks.

i left mine in for ages last year, they got well huge, but everyone who had them said how great they tasted!! I'm guessing the first frost will kill em off though!

I lift them by end of September and store them in the shed in a container with sand, also pickle a few jars, the stored ones in the shed last untill well into the following spring, giving us fresh as well as pickled all the year round, have just finished last years pickled so will have to make some more, wife preferes fresh and I like the pickled so we get best of both worlds.

Hi,
We also cooked, sliced and froze some last year and they were really good even after a year.

Cheers,

Wayne.
