If I covered your neighbouring plot with a solar "farm", what would your reaction be?
-
I would report you to the council :D
Allotments are intended for growing produce for personal use only, not for profit.
However it would be a more interesting question if you said it was for the benefit of the whole site.
Hopefully this is a hypothetical question.

Absolutely hypothetical. Great point, is it for the benefit of all, but then where is "my" incentive? Also not-for-profit is a show stopper when feeding the national grid. Growing plants is still by far the most efficient method of turning sunshine into usable energy anyway. Can we widen this question, how about wind farms? Any other way to save the world? Growing maize for bio fueling my car?

how about wind farms? ....Grow more onions (sorry couldn't resist)

Brussel sprouts too! Ooh no, that would be contributing to global warming gases.

I think solar and wind farms are good way of using the elements to our advantage.
the problem is nobody wants it next to them.
