I'd just roast the chestnuts not the kids - you'll be needing them to get up the chimney and sweep it in the Spring!!  :tongue2:

Common consensus appears to be : You can roast all but one child .... unless there's a kid in your area that you can abuse to sweep your chimney, in which case you can roast all your children

I suggest gas mark 5 for 20 minutes per pound and an extra 20 minutes ... baste occasionally

... good job I'm off on holiday, the naughty step would get ever so uncomfortable otherwise :D

Funny how all the kids disappear when there's 257 chestnuts to peel  all safely boiled in the end - just left a few for roasting if it gets cold so we can warm our hands - no central heating on yet at Janeymiddlewifes'  - cardboard box - you were lucky.................. 8)

btw - my 16 year old daughter wants to know what she can have for her lunch tomorrow - chestnuts?  :D  :D

34 down 200 and something to go - you don't get a lot of puree per nut do you ?

No sadly not - i have many a 'fond' memory of pushing the cooked nuts through a nylon sieve to get the right texture for the stuffing - that was after cracking the skin on my fingers raw shelling the red hot ones.
