Title: Atco belt size
Post by: Dom Carlisle on March 09, 2019, 19:59
Evening
I have an old Atco Deluxe 5HP with reverse (black and green with Briggs and Stratton engine) Cultivator. It has two belts small and large. Does anyone know the size of the large belt? Also what spark plug it takes as I think it has the wrong one insitu.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from you(pics attached)

Regards Dom

The correct plug for a B & S 5hp side valve engine is the Champion J8, There is a newer Champion number but I can't remember what it is. Belts are more problematic. I rather think that is a re-badged Qualcast Cultimatic and I bought the remaining stocks of genuine belts for Cultimatics, along with some Atco Merry Tiller stuff. Part number is L17249 but I haven't got the parts book for the Cultimatic or Atco deluxe to tell if it is right for your machine. I sell them on my Merry Tiller website. If you have the old belt, your local engineers supplies shop will be able to measure it and provide a replacement belt of the same size.

hello as R Tallentire says try an engineering or bearing supplier for the belt the spark plug could be a RCJ8 or CJ8 r is for resistor this stops interference on electronic equipment   jezza

In the July 1985 Atco service agent spares manual it lists the main, large, drive belt as L17249 and the smaller reverse one as L17317.

At the time I left the machinery world, 28 years ago.!, I seem to recall the then new plug for B&S was Champion J19LM as better suited to the available fuels.
.
The Atco De-Luxe was based on the Qualcast Cultimatic De-Luxe.

Morning all. Thank you for all your help
Tallentire, dorimower and jezza
I've sourced  a new belt L17249 and spark plug CJ8.
The machine I have is a work horse and now has plenty more years in it.
Thanks again
