Picked these up from Wilkoes.
Blueberry £4 each.  Raspberries £1 each.

They seem very cheap,so what can I really expect from them and would it be worth getting more?
There is no indication as to what types they are.
Thanks
Bill

Don't seem a bad price, except I can't give away my excess raspberries!

Are they autumn or summer fruiting, or does it not say? It is important.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Blueberries fruiting June-August
Raspberries have no fruiting time on the box only planting time.
February-March or September-November???

Well at least you won't have to worry yet. How you prune depends on the variety.

We've had this discussion before & come to the conclusion that if they don't fruit this year to give you a clue, do nothing & leave them until next.

Yes really they do, unless you have an acidic soil then you are OK.

You can make your own ericaceous compost quite easily using a mixture of peat and sand or loam, peat and sand to which you add a product called Chempak Ericaceous Compost Maker. This is a blend of the correct nutrients to create a suitable acid root environment to suit all ericaceous plants, once it has been added to a basic medium blend as described above.
Some garden centres will stock it.

Does ericaceous  compost work for currants and other small fruit bushes?
Thanks.

Depends on their requirements.  I think they all grow in acidic conditions, but blueberries are much more fussy.  May be make a 50:50 mix with other compost otherwise it could get expensive.

As for raspberries, I picked up something cheap from a supermarket about 4 years ago.  It is a summer cropping variety but the fruits can be smallish but still very nice.  I still have them (don't they spread like wildfire!) but have since bought recognised varieties as well.

I'd check the wysiwyggy threads since someone posted regarding soil type for fruit only yesterday.  Follow link in my sig, then Fruit Index, then blackcurrant (I think)

You could also post specific questions under the type of fruit you want to know about.

Blueberries certainly need more acid than any other.
