Trinidad Scorpion anyone?
« on: August 06, 2014, 20:08 »
I read about these in the newspaper, and today Mr Sunny brought one home carefully wrapped in foil.

They are the hottest of hot chillies you can possibly imagine. Even smelling it from a careful distance made my nose sting and eyes water

According to the article, people have been hospitalised by over doing it with these and they are completely mouth  numbing, even in very very tiny slivers

Anyone tried them at all?

I wouldn't eat one. I wouldn't touch it without gloves either. Having nearly ended up in casualty from handling a Orange Habanero I wouldn't want to experience that again.  It's like your hands are in a fire and you wouldn't do that to yourself willingly would you.  Honestly it was agony and it went on for hours.

If you handle it for chopping use gloves and if you cook it well in a curry etc then hopefully the effects might be somewhat mitigated.  I'd wear me glasses to as you don't want juice in your eye.  If your old man bought it I'd let him deal with it.

Maybe the easiest thing would be to chuck it in whole as chopping into it will release the juice, and the gas the darn things give off. I call it "gas" as that's what the effects are like. You cough, splutter and feel like you're going to be sick

Mrs Growster says you're either mad, or wanting an OBE..;0)

She rubbed her eyes a few minutes ago, and spent the rest of lunchtime swabbing her face!

And they're only Apache!

(The chillis, not Mrs Growster,,;0)

Apparently, not much harm, Rosie, and they maybe even beneficial to the system!

It depends on your point of view, which, in my case may be somewhat blurred from the prolific eye-watering which sometimes accompanies Mrs Growster's specialities with chilli..;0)

And she never bats an eyelid! - well she couldn't if it's wreathed in tears the size of a small Norwegian lake..;0)
