Because we're not allowed to sow bit of people together and then shock them with lightening

Grafting plants gives you the benefits of the root stock properties and the scion. The root system may be health, vigorous and decease resistant but have really poor fruit. Your scion my have wonderful fruit but is such a feeble plant it comes down with every decease there is. Grafting solves the problem.

Totty wants to graft a cuke which has similar properties to a lemming onto a winter squash, this will reduce the risk of stem rot a major cause for cuke death and theoretically increase production giving a much more robust plant.

Pigguns is trying to graft an aub onto a tomato stock, aubs are really pain to grow and tend not to produce well even if you can keep them alive, the tomato rootstock stock should perform better than the aubs and result in a productive plant.
