Christmas dinner - most home grown
« on: December 25, 2012, 17:40 »
With the turkey we had from the allotment cabbage ( red and white) jerusalem artichokes garlic beetroot. I am sure there are people had more. Come on show me.
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.

Just homegrown potatoes (Ambo) and parsnips here.  Onion, carrot, celery, garlic and sprouts used were bought. ::) Used all the garlic ages ago, don't really grow celery, didn't grow onions this year and carrots weren't great to say the least! We've discussed giving sprouts a go next year. :D

I managed the sprouts (montgomery), the parsnips (panache), and some turnip (Petrowski) to mix with the swede (bought).
My big sadness was the local farm bought King Edward potatoes, not a patch on my Golden Wonders which succumbed to blight in this year of wet.
Still for gardeners the year ahead is always going to be the best ever.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.
