What is it with chicken book writers?

They can't get simple facts straight!  ???

Am currently reading Chicken Coops for the Soul by Julia Hollander.

The book in general is good, lots of research (and it's written from the POV that she's a complete beginner, so learning on the way)

anyway, the bit that jarred was her statement "You should be able to tell the general colour of the eggs by looking at the chicken - a white bird will produce a white egg; a brown a brown. If she has odd  plumage like lavender or cuckoo, then you can consult her earlobes..."

funny, that, I've had hens of several colours, and they've all produced brown eggs.
white hens (of two varitieties) - brown eggs
red hens (brown hens?) - brown eggs
black hens - brown eggs
black and white striped hens - brown eggs
grey hen - brown eggs.

the only common thing was that they had red earlobes
 :nowink:

I can't believe that is written in a book!

Hens with white earlobes will lay white (or blue) eggs, Hens with red earlobes will lay everything else from cream, ivory, tinted, beige, brown!

Egg colour is not effected by feather colour!

I'd be tempted to write to her, or the publisher!

I've done it before - not this book, but another one (i think it was a kids' book that had a section on chickens)

It's insane that people still believe this!  ???

My 2 white silkies had blue earlobes, but didn't lay blue eggs!!  nor white eggs!  They were a pale flesh colour!
