Title: newby help
Post by: southwalesgirl on June 21, 2015, 11:24
Hi everyone, have just discovered this lovely site. I do not have green fingers but am learning slowly about everything. We live on hill with a south facing garden that is lower than our house so it is very sheltered with plenty of sun. But sadly it does get hit by all the weather in the winter.  Have been slowly introducing growing my own into my garden. Have a good crop of gooseberries, strawberries and blackcurrants now. I have a huge pot of parsley and mint cause we use loads. This year have been looking at veg. So we planted little gems tomatoes and cabbage. All seem to be doing ok thankfully. I had some white onions that had sprouted and a friend told me to plant them in a pot and use the shoots like chives. The three onions have grown tremendous green shoots with what I think must be flower pods on the top. Can I use the shoots and the onions or not? I have been searching online but can't really find any info and I don't want to make myself or my family ill.
I am reading loads of things on here and learning so much, its amazing!

Hi there and welcome to the forum. You can certainly use the green onions shoots and the flowering stem is also edible, but might be a bit tough.

Sounds as though you have made a good start with growing, so maybe you will find you do have green fingers after all  :D
