I bought a bag of Shakespeare autumn sow onions set for 50p and didn't notice the autumn bit.

Has anyone ever grown autumn sets in spring and will they work?

All I can say is if you`ve got them try them and see the worst that can happen is that they sprout and you eat these like spring onion tops.

I think that this is the only thing to do.  I will post a message if and when they grow and try not to buy bargains without checking first.  :oops:

Sorry Dragonfly, I meant to reply to this thread earlier.  Never done it but you've got nothing to lose except a few yards of drill space in your garden.

My bet is that they'll work fine although they might have a tendency to mature early (and hence smaller).   Regardless, I'd use them up quickly since autumn-sown varieties supposedly don't keep.  I grow a lot of Japanese onions since they are ready when I need them for the start of the pickle/chutney making season.
