purple sprouting over?
« on: May 04, 2014, 11:19 »
First time growing psb and had a good harvest. Its still throwing out loads of spears but they are getting more spindly. Is that it now? As I could do with clearing the area for other stuff

I would think so, because any remaining spears you cut off now you can use. Any more that come afterwards will probabaly not be worth using.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

They do go on for a long time don't they? I follow mine with squashes and sweetcorn, as they don't get planted out for another couple of weeks and so the PSB gets the longest cropping time before I have to take it out.

Although this year mine has been so prolific I have let the last lot flower as insects love it  :D

Oh yes. Good point about the flowers.  I pulled up my main patch today but still have two which are in a corner out of the way which I didn't cover with netting as an experiment. I will let them flower now.

I let a row of my kale flower and now I cant take it down because of all the bees on it.

Nice to see so many of them this early.

I just planted out yesterday!  I like the idea of following them with squashes.  There we are I have a 12 month plan ahead now

I leave the odd one PSB in the ground to flower for the bees and follow with squashes which then just grow around it. I guess the bees switch nicely from PSB flowers to squash flowers when they are ready so its a good trade.
