bring and swap homemade goodies?...
« on: March 22, 2011, 18:55 »
Ok, so this weekend I will be travelling down to Dorset for a river cottage event (wooo!) and there is an opportunity to 'bring and swap' and homemade goodies (wooo!)....
Despite my best organised efforts (!!) I am fast loosing time to prepare something (booo!!) and seeing as any chutneys, etc are out of the question due to lack of time, I was wondering if anyone had good recipes they have used in the past for quick but yummy goodies? (all leftovers will be passed on to recipe suggesters of course!)

If you're travelling a distance and are likely to have to do some standing around once you're there, I'd go for something that's light and easy to transport (i.e. not too wet).

How about cookies?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

or sweets - such as different fudges and toffees
Staffies are softer than you think.

Fruit cake travels well, either whole or ready cut - square ones work well.  And I've never taken fruit cake anywhere & had leftovers to bring home!!

My favourite recipe is a Christmas cake if covered in marzipan & icing and served in December, but if served "undressed" it's known as Holiday Cake and is great for caravanning, boating or picnicking as it doesn't fall apart when carted around in a tin.

hmmm yes the transporting point is a good one! I think nothing too heavy either, as otherwise it will be an effort to lug around from where we are staying!

Fruitcake is a fab idea.... particularly cut beforhand, as then its harder to tell if there is a slice or two missing  ;)

Thanks all for the suggestions... I can't wat to swap for some other goodies...the grass is always greener and all that?!!...
