New zealand cabbage tree

Not a veg, 12 foot tree cordyline.
Lost a couple to deep frost a few years ago but sprouted again from the base. Fine.
But, weeding the border today I have fond what looks like a seedling, just like a small cordyline houseplant. Do these self seed often? First I have seen.
