is it ok to put the whole nettle stalk in  (if I bash them with a spade), or should i strip off leaves to line potato trench with?
I'm concerned about "sowing" nettles along with my spuds by putting the whole stalk (obviously I'd not put the roots in!)

Throw all the nettles you can get on a lawn, and mow the lot. Chuck it all in the trench and the spuds will love it.
