too late to sow tomatoes?
« on: April 14, 2011, 14:49 »
After nurturing tomato plants for a couple of months I went away on work and OH then decided to go away to her parents, so nothing got watered and I lost all of my toms (and a load of other stuff). Is it worth replanting? I don't want to buy plants as I prefer unusual varieties.

You're only a few weeks late starting now. Your plants might not get as big as they could have, but should still produce some useful fruit. worst case is that you try it, don't get very much. That's still more than you'll get otherwise!!

sow away, they will quickly catch up  :)
I've not sown the toms to go out on the plot yet, so it's not a problem.

Apart from onion seeds I have not sown anything yet. No panic. No going to put earlies spuds in until last week this month. Every thing will catch up ;)

Agree with mumsie, longer hours of light and warmer temps, keep them well fed n watered and they will be as big as any other sown earlier.

I've not sown any toms yet and I wont for a week or two due to the risk of frosts and hav'ing no greenhouse. You will be fine to re sow now.  :)

Not sowing anything until I've returned from Easter visiting! I'm sure everything will be fine and I won't have the problem of preventing things going leggy and needing protected from frost.

Last year two of the varieties I sowed didn't germinate first time round.  What with one thing and another it was May before I got more sowed.  they soon caught up with all the earlier ones and gave me plenty of fruit.

I too have sown extra just this last weekend, and  they will catch up to my march sown.

Nice weather and a god watering and they will do just fine.
