Good Morning - Yes put nettles in a bucket (try to chop up the nettles a little to help with the soaking)

Cover the nettles with water and place a brick on the neetles to keep them submerged. Put a lid on the bucket and leave (becomes very smelly  :tongue2: )

after 4 to 5 weeks take one part neetle juice with 10 parts water (it should look like weakish tea) and there you have it fantastic feed.

My dad has sworn by this for years.

I soak nettles, dandelion roots any bits I don't want in the compost bin like this. Just make a soup out of a water butt of water and throw them all in.

Remember to put an escape post in the barrel so wildlife can get back out if they fall in.

Makes a smelly "tea" that is a great general plant food.

Apparently, if you only leave it for a week (give it a few stirs during), diluted 1:5, then it can be used to treat Aphids!

This is my first time at all this but so far I've had salad leaves and rhubarb, nothing else.  I see my first strawberry is forming though, very exciting!

I notice on the replies for making fertilizer out of thistles, there are conflicting dilution methods.
1) says 1:5 another says 1:10
as I am wanting to do the same (for the first time) I was wondering what the correct method should be I dont want to damage the crop
Can anyone help
Thanks

Hi wesdolby

It all depends on how many nettles to water you start with (its strength) the recommendation is to dilute it until it looks like weak tea (before you add the milk) the 5-1 10-1 are just estimates. Go for it, we all make at slightly different strengths and never managed to kill anything yet
