Hello

I have a small mesh covered grow patch where I am growing 1 row of carrots and 1 row of lettuce (Little Leprechaun). One day I found 1 young lettuce plant a bit damaged and I suspecting a type of caterpillar so I quickly ordered some TOPBUXUS XenTari to try and stop the pests but after 1 day of not checking on them I've found all my young lettuces have completely gone sadly.

I can't see any pests so I suspect they might be in the soil but is there any way to identify them?

Also are the carrots at risk from the same pest?!

Sounds like slugs to me.

hmm, I have recently picked probably about 100 slugs from the garden but I don't see any slug trails around the patch, also its lined with horticultural gravel which I thought might stop them from trailing over.

I will have to inspect over night then during the weekend.

Apart from hand picking are there any other good ways to stop/reduce them?

I use “Growing Success Slug Killer Advanced” as it contains no metaldehyde, so safe for birds.

And apply it regularly especially after rain over quite a wide area-not just around your plants. Don't put piles of it around-follow the instructions

Have you also tried nematodes to combat slugs also? What about snails as well, anything that's well recommended for them?
