Title: Rotovator Instruction Books
Post by: Gwiz on October 25, 2008, 07:47
We have a lot of people who would like to get hold of instruction books for rotovators.
I would like to try to start a collection of these, so that we can help out.
If you have an instruction book, and wouldn't mind sending me a copy, either by email or post, please send a PM.
I'm interested in all models and makes, whether it be Howard, Mountfield, Flymo, Norlett, Atco, Qualcast, Merry Tiller ( we have Johns excellent copy on file ) Honda, or indeed anything A little more, shall we say, "modern"
What have you got?

Thank you in advance!

Here is a link to our growing list of manuals

I'm happy with manuals going up for old discontinued models but a bit cautious about Mantis (copyright issue). I'll ask the MD next week if he minds.

I think you should ask Mantis for permission, point out that it would increase interest and possibly increase sales. After all, how many people actually buy the manuals? It may even be possible to get an ISO of the video for downloading.

Hi everyone

I'm new here and need alittle help.........I have a Landmaster rotary hoe mark 1, with a villiers engine.

But...after a recent mishap (otherwise a little * jumping over my fence and snapping the spark plug head off with his foot ) I now need a new spark plug and my local stockists say I need the number of the spark plug and could get this from a manual, which I don't have even after months of searching the web.

Any help on either the manual or the spark plug would be great.

Kind regards

Ken

Any idea which Villiers engine it is?

Reason for asking is I have come across a supplier of engine manuals for Villiers but you'd need to know which engine. If this is of any help PM me and I'll pass on the link. :)

ok, its 4 cycle that means 4 stroke in English so you don't need to mix oil and fuel, you should find a separate oil sump on it somewhere like a car  :)  and you can get B & S manuals online if you can find the model number. Why not post a new topic ? if you need further help

jimbob, just spotted your request for Monro Tiller series 3 manual. If you are still looking for one I can supply an original in near mint condition. I can also date your machine from the serial number as I have factory records for Monro Tiller series 1, 2 and 3.
You may want to have a look at my website, where I have a page dedicated to Monro Tiller's, you can also e-mail me directly from the site.

Hi guys, I don't suppose that there is anyone who has a manual for a Shay Rotogardener 80 with a Jap 80cc engine out there. I inherited mine from a very old friend (92 year old) and it is doing sterling work, but I would really benefit from having the operating manual!

So far I have changed the plug which made it possible to restart it when it is hot, weld the head gearbox location lug back on so the head didn't do what mine does and go wandering anywhere at all times of operation, sort out a head gearbox leak and strip, clean and refit the carb all without either a safety harness or a book to help.

If I can get hold of a manual it would be a great help!

Jonzjob, I have an illustrated parts list for the JAP 2 stroke engine as fitted to the Gardenmaster 80, could be the same engine as your machine, let me know if you want a copy. I also have a sales leaflet for the Shay Rotogardener 80.

Post by: kingsdale on December 17, 2009, 19:24
Hi

Thanks for the suggestions, the 400 does look different to the other models in terms of gear selection etc, so not sure if the innards would be different too.

These are all new to me...  I fired it up yesterday, so the kohler engine works fine, but someone must have messed with the gear selector, when it is in neutral it goes backwards, and I can't find any position to make it drive forward.  The roto tines do rotate however when engaged.  slight wimpering 'help'

Any suggestions gratefully recieved
regards
Adrian

If you go to Lings advertisement on this site they have PDF owner manual downloads freely available within the current rotovator details advert.

Also a Google/Yahoo/Bing etc search on the model you are interested in will usually give you some useful information.

Hi
Can anybody help?
I'm after a manual and user instruction for the Templar Tiller/rotovator I have looked at
http://www.allotment-garden.org/rotovator/index.php but I haven’t seen anything for this model of tiller/rotovator.

I know this sounds daft, but I'm not sure what to do with the wheels when using it? Does this model run with a depth bar or just the wheel legs, with the wheels moved higher up the legs?

Does anybody know the correct width of the drive belt on the Templar Tiller its currently running on a car type that looks very narrow on the flywheel /pulley’s

Many Thanks

I recently bought a Mountfield manor 35, with a Briggs and Stratton Model 90000 manual and a DORI MD 40 T rotavators, with operating instuctions and MT80 & MT80B owners manual.

Dori manual is in French, if there are any who are able to translate it I would be willing to send a copy, it is large writing with pictures and only 13 pages in total.

The Mountfield is in many languages including English, total 73 pages, and a 12 page multi language operating and maintenance instrutions.

Would they be of use to your collection.

Regards

I have a Mountfield M1 Gardener with a mowing deck as well as the rotavator. I bought it new in 1986! I have a copy of the original operating instructions, and the parts list, which I could scan and email if you like. My version is not the one with 2 drive belts, but it is direct drive, with the vertical engine shaft coupled to the vertical shaft for mower deck or rotavator via a dry clutch, consisting of 2 plates with a v-belt sandwiched between them, and squeezed when the clutch is engaged. This belt gets worn out after a year or two, depending on use, and how much the clutch slips.

I can still get belts, but am having problems with the mower blade, which I am told is obsolete. I will report back if I find a solution, but am off to sharpen it for now!

Hi, I am new to this site, my son and I have just got hold of 1/2 an acre to use, I have got hold of a FLYMO DM rotovator, I have put a bit of work into this to get it running, but I would love to get hold of a copy of the manual that comes with it, I notice you might have some.

It is missing the adjuster bearings, the one that pushes againsed the belt to tighten it and give drive, anyone know where i can get these, or the spec so I can hunt.

Hope you can solve my problem

Regards

Graham

I think you'll find it worth your looking :)

Does anybody have a manual to cover the Clinton engine fitted to the Merry Tiller type 'D' Professional c. mid-60's? I think it's a 3 1/4 H.P. engine but not certain about this.

Also looking for an exhaust for this engine if anybody can offer any advice  :)

I have also just inherited a fairly rust  Shay Rotogardner 80 with the JAP engine.  Serial No 80/1/6754.  Any advice or instruction manuals would be greatly appreciated.  I would give it no more than a 50:50 chance of ever starting but you never know.  I have a box of blades as well.  Does anyone know how these are meant to be installed and which do what?
Hi derrys18b,
I have a Shay Rotogardener 80 with the JAP engine(picked up yesterday) it does run well, looks well and it came with operating instructions and user's handbook for the JAP engine.
Gonna try and upload it for you   ;)

That's great news.  I too have a JAP engined Rotogardener 80.  I'd like to try to get it running again even though it hasn't run since sometime in the late 60's.

I'll look out for your uploaded manual.

There are some manuals on this French site. The one I was interested in - Honda F600 - is in French, English and German but the Parts Manual is in French

Hi Doug - good news, it had gone into the wrong postbox. There's an empty property up the hill and we checked its box which was filling. Redistributed the contents to the right houses :)

So, thanks for the note which made me check. I'll get it scanned this week and back in the post to you.

HI

I am having trouble getting my machine started and wondered if anyone out there had any experience of this machine.
I have put a new spark plug on but it almosts looks like it has been put on backwards. Does anyone have a manual for the engine which is a JAP one.
I'd be grateful for any help as now the weather is nice i want to get out and do some work but the fact the machine doesnt work is a bit of an issue.
Im sure it is just something simple if only i could work out what.
I have worked on a lot of machines esp lawnmowers and always got them working nicely but this one has me stumped.
Kindest regards
Sean

You would do well, I think, if you got in touch with "Meetens" who may be able to supply you a manual for your engine. They may very well have parts for your engine too. Worth a go.
I believe that they are still in Epsom In Surrey.

I've just bought a Qualcast Cultimatic Deluxe on ebay, but it didn't come with an instruction booklet. ( Briggs & Stratton 4HP engine )

Does anyone have a copy they could email me?

It seems in decent condition (starts 1st time), but the clutch cable could do with being adjusted as it's too loose.

Also ... can I use unleaded petrol in this model? I've looked all over the engine but cannot see a model number anywhere.

Thanks

Also, a bit of an explanation would be good. It has an arm on one handle for adjusting between stop and fast. It also has a bicycle type lever on one handle, which when pressed makes the blades spin, but it also has another brake type handle on the the other side. whats that for? This was a bit loose, but it appears to push a bar down onto the rubber belt.

### found the code!

Model 100232
Type 0564 01
Code 78091507

Newbie here desperately seeking......a manual for my Qualcast Cultimatic Super! I acquired it from the bay 18 months back and have been playing tunes on the carb to get it to start!Finaly (after busting and replacing the recoil starter) got it going yesterday  :D after re-gapping and cleaning the points. In an earlier post (11/2011) there was mention of a manual being scanned but I can't see one on the list of Old Rotovator Manuals? Any help would be much appreciated.  :)

I'm ok on the engine - it's a Suffolk 98g14. It's the chassis and drive/skid/transport wheels set up I am looking for and how to choose the drive pulleys for type of work etc - effectively how to use it and what attachments were made available.

Hi
I took over my allotment year gone September and with it inherited a Norlett Beaver Powerspade rotavator with a Briggs and Stratton 2.5hp 4 stroke engine.  I'd like to overhaul it (it's ceased up) and get it into service but don't have any manuals for it.  The reference number on the engine is 80112 0242-01 7702110.  I've searched this site and Google to find a manual with no success does anyone have a copy by any chance?
Thanks

Post by: grendel on August 05, 2013, 18:01
the powerspade is a simple beast, just use the manual for the engine, the cutting head on the powerspade is rivetted pressed metal, so not easily servicable, but these are still available on the internet.
I have the older aspera engined version with a solid cast gearhead, but if the gearhead is not seized then you just need an engine manual (when I got mine it was seized, it turned out to be the gearhead which I stripped down and got working.

Hi
Just joined the site.

We have a plot just south of Cambridge (approx. 1 acre under cultivation) where we grow veg, hard fruit and soft fruit. We are under the cosh at the moment harvesting soft fruit and veg. We currently have four chest freezers and tons of jam to get through so I am trying to get into wine making to use the fruit but don’t seem to find the time.

I was looking for an Operating manual for a CAMON C10 rotavator which I have just bought via a well-known web based auction house. It worked well when I picked it up but it didn’t have a O & M manual with. No problem I thought you can always get one on line or from the manufacturer. How wrong I was the manufacturer didn’t want to know and referred me to a two page sheet on their web site which tells me nothing quoting H & S as the reason they cannot supply an O & M as the machine might be modified. I have heard it all now!

So the reason I am on this rant is to ask if anyone has a CAMON C10 O & M manual they can copy for me I would be most appreciative.

Still enjoy the gardening though.

I'm afraid there is no buying or selling on the forum Topdog and its not a manual that is already on the main site.

I did find this site.  You have to register and log on to read or download the manual.  It just shows you blurred out print if you preview it without doing this, so I can't tell you if it is exactly what you are looking for or not.

A newbie here is looking for help finding an instruction manual for a recently bought 1950's Shay RotoGardener 80  serial 80/A/5604 with a JAP 2-stroke engine.

Does anyone have a copy they could scan/photocopy, or know where I could obtain one?
I intend to clean and service the machine before putting it to use on the veg patch.

I have found a picture of the Instruction booklet, if that helps.

Any help appreciated.
