Potatoes
« on: May 15, 2012, 12:09 »
Hi all, I planted potatoes on the 28th March, Rocket and Mozart varieties, they had been chitted for about a month prior, they appear to be doing very well, albeit first time spud grower! when do you think they will be ready to crop.  I am also still chitting some Kind Edward to go in the ground over the course of the next week is that a good idea?  Could i plant half now and half in june??

I would say at least another month for your early varieties, then have a feel, (furtle) under the foliage to see what's there.

The KE need to go in ASAP, they are maincrop and need a longer growing season to reach maturity.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I would agree with DD to a point, rocket are quick growers (clue in the name) so have a fettle (furtle to some) a little earlier than the Mozart.

If you want them salad size go earlier, if you want bigger than leave until to the flower heads are forming.

Is it futile to furtle when not in fine fettle?
