Thanks, all, and hi - what a very nice welcome here.  Happyvalley -  it does look more like a Wendy house than a chicken house and some gingham curtains wouldn't look amiss - it's a decidedly 'girly' hen house! Perhaps I could get one of those cute hens which wears an apron and bonnet and carries a little basket of eggs over her wing...   :D

Chickychick - you're right - I can't wait, I don't know what type to get though - didn't realise there were so many varieties to choose from. I'll  be wanting a couple of ex-battery hens sometime, but not till I have built up  a bit of confidence with normal healthy chickens.

I'm putting the wood preserver on now and probably won't get this part finished for a day or two. I should be getting the stuff to make the pop-hole door later today and will work on that over the weekend.  I'll post a photo when it's all dry and assembled and when I've added the door.

Hi, Aunt Sally - no, not yet, and I gather there are less hens available in the winter months, anyway. I will check out the the thread about suppliers in South Wales area, but I am not ready for them yet, anyway - probably will be another couple of weeks before all the preparations are done.   :)
