Comfry (Bocking 14)
« on: July 01, 2009, 23:18 »
Hi, I purchased bocking 14 from ebay in May 09, I put the small pieces into plant pots, all of 5 sprouted leaves, I took them to the lotty and planted them, gave them a good feed of chicken pellets and watered well, one was doing well, reached 3" with a couple of leaves, unfortunately something pulled it out of the ground last night root an'all - replanted it tonight.  The rest grow a leaf or two then disappear - what am I doing wrong  :( :( :( :( :(

Are you keeping them watered? Are the leaves being eaten or are they going brown falling off?

I put mine on a sandy north slope last year and managed to kill all but one. Which I divided up and relocated. Its much happier where it is in and I've filled my press 3 times this year already  :D

They might not be dead, just a bit dehydrated. I would have thought it was hard to kill comfrey but the summer is not the best time to transplant. If they don't buck up PM me and I'll send you some bits in the autumn - they're originally from GrannieAnnie so they're top notch.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Thanks Noshed I might take you up on the offer, I'll cover postage etc.  I was so looking forward to growing some but still no joy - think I wasted yet more money  :( :( :(

your prob might be that you fed them with chicken pellets ,

a fox dont know about chicken pellets , but it does know the chickens smell and so does there pellets ,

replant but do not feed , keep well watered in this warm period

Thanks Peter you might have a point there as I seen a lost fox cub last week it might have pulled it outta the soil. My next problem is wot about the one's I have at home in pots they are doing nothing at the moment, still think I got a bad batch, maybe they didn't like the travelling - if they sprout soon I'll update the page.

Hi Noshed, though I'd update this - I now have two plants sprouting up nicely and a third trying, I also have one in a pot at home which seems to be coming on well, so in the end it wasn't a waste of money.

Thankyou again for your offer, looks like I'll not be needing it now  :) :) :) :) :)
