Trying to identify a duck breed
« on: January 05, 2015, 18:33 »
Hi Folks

A belated Happy New Year to you all.

Sorry I don't have a photo but I'm trying to identify my friend's drake. It looks as if it's a mallard but the colouring is off a little. He has the lovely green head and back of neck (no banding) and the standard brown mallard colour on his back, but under his bill and down onto his chest he is white. His legs are orange. I don't think he is a cross but I'm not sure. Do Mallards come in this colouring also?

Any help greatly appreciated  :)

regards

Helena

It may be a wild mallard (I am no expert) but they do cross breed with duck escapees which can cause odd markings :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Mallard mongrel !

A Mallard drake will mate with anything that don't get out of harms way! :)

Lol! That's why she is looking to get rid of him. He's making a nuisance of himself so much with her three girls that they are afraid to come out of their coop

her girls are lucky, in the wild there is usually a gang of drakes after just one poor female and the female will sometimes drown when they all pile onto her.
Staffies are softer than you think.
