Storing new potatoes
« on: July 07, 2008, 14:07 »
I have lots and lots of new potatoes ready for eating.

Should I dig up and store or leave in the ground??

If I leave them in the ground will they get huge and if that does happen does the taste go etc??

Hi, I don't know what the official line is but I have left mine where they are until I need them.  They have grown abit big but they still taste 100 times better than shops ones.  I suppose it depends on whether you want little ones or bigger ones.

'New' potatoes left in the ground become 'old' potatoes. Larger but harder to peel.
Whether or not the flavour is better as 'new' or 'old' will depend on the variety.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
