Title: Egg abnormality
Post by: Adam016 on October 03, 2022, 03:26
Hey, new to having hens and wondering if anyone can help provide information on what's happening with this egg. So far just one. It seems that 2 eggs were laid from the same hen. I've had my hens for approximately 2 weeks now. Also unsure of the age of them. Thanks in advance

The first few eggs a hen lays can be a bit oddly shaped. Nothing to worry about  :)

That would be understandable if these were young birds, however I don't believe they are. With that said this is the first of many eggs that has been deformed and possible cause of 2 eggs layer at the same time? Again I am new to owning chickens though I try to research as much as possible. Just trying to get some insight on this issue. I will continue to keep a close eye and see if this continues or if it it was a one off chance. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers

are you providing oyster shell for them to eat?
The shell hasn't formed correctly due to lack of calcium in diet or moving too quickly through the hen.
Also provide grit
i always used chick size and prodided a flowerpot which was staked into the ground.
If hens laying in winter then i would say they are young birds
