Cochins
« on: June 22, 2016, 18:05 »
Hello, I've been looking for Cochins for a few months, I finally tracked down a breeder but now I don't know whether to go for 4 Cochins or 2 Cochins and 2 other Pure breeds that are good layers as I know Cochins are not good layers, however the breeder only has Cochins, so I would have to buy the other two hens from somewhere else. I'm in a bit of a quandary now as to what to do. Any opinions/advice on this? also any idea what Pure breeds would live alongside my Cochins and are good layers....dear me choices, choices.....

I've finally decided to go for a Green frog Plastic Coop, after visiting a local Poultry Breeder who kindly showed me one of these that he uses for boarding hens.

You will need a dry area, or be prepared for washing feet or trimming feathers often. They are cute though. I have a friendly copper maran or for more eggs you could go for the warrens (brown hen).
If getting from seperate people it would be best to quarantine the 2 types.
Think of foxes when building the run as well as weather
