Leave in the ground and harvest as required does me.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I have never managed to store them for long without them starting to shrivel slightly, I'm afraid, so always leave any surplus in the soil with a few slug pellets 'cultivated in' by them

Some I pickle and others get blanched and frozen. I shall find out over the next weeks and months just how successfull I have been in saving my turnips. I find if I leave them growing in the ground to long they get terribly woody.

Stentman.
Pickled turnips?   That work like beetroot?   Never heard of it being done, but game to try.

Hmm.  Maybe leave them in the ground then.  Cheers!

Stentman. Pickled turnips?   That work like beetroot?   Never heard of it being done, but game to try.

After doing some beetroot pickling I was asked by my 10 year old daughter if we could pickle some turnips as we had lots. I'd never heard of it before so my 8 year old IT wizard son googled "pickled Turnip" and found this recipe.

The results are interesting in a crunchy sort of way and worth a try with a few small turnips.
