Can it be done in the microwave?

Yes but it is a lot more fuss than steralizing them in a low oven. Also you can only do a few jars at a time. Quarter fill the jar with cold water, dip in your fingers and rub your dampened fingers completely around the jar. If the jar has a lid, shake the water around with the lid on but DON'T leave it on when you put it into the microwave as metal items cause the microwave to spark and can destroy it. Microwave the jar for one minute on full power. Everywhere the moisture has touched will be brought to boiling point and sterlized.
