Strawberry Tarts
« on: June 25, 2010, 15:21 »
I fancy making some strawberry tarts, like the ones in Gregg's windows

Anyone know how to make the syrup/sauce that goes over the top?
What if the Hokey Cokey IS what its all about...

OH went to the local shop and came home with a birds trifle box coz it had a sachet of jelly crystals.

I'm assuming this is the same thing, do I just add extra water so that the jelly doesn't set?

it's not the same thing at all  :(
The quick gel starts to set in the pan as you bring it to the boil and is still thickening as you pour it over the fruit, by the time you have chilled it for 10mins it is soft set for eating
(it never goes really hard like an ordinary jelly does.

The jelly in trifle can take hours to set and sets hard like.......a jelly does.

Next time you visit the supermarket get a tub of Arrowroot (look for Supercook brand), it thickens like cornflour without the cloudy colour.
Slake it as you would cornflour and add to the (sweetened ?) boiling fruit liquid to get the desired thickness.  :)

Well, the thin liquidy jelly was poured over the strawberry and cream filled cases.......... it was soooooo yummy, nothing like what is should have looked like mind you but tasty just the same.

I'll get the right stuff for next time.
